Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles may be without two key players, goalkeeper Ani Ozoemena and defender Abdularafiu Taiwo, for their crucial Group D showdown against Sudan at the 2024 African Nations Championship.
Ozoemena, who was sidelined in Nigeria’s 1-0 loss to defending champions Senegal, is still nursing a knee injury and is yet to return to full training.
Taiwo, meanwhile, sustained a knock during the match and had to be taken off in the 64th minute, with Harrison Uzondu coming on as his replacement.
Both players were absent from the team’s recovery session on Wednesday morning, according to the team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe.
Head coach, Eric Chelle, now faces a race against time to see whether the pair can recover before next Tuesday’s must-win fixture against Sudan, scheduled to take place at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar.
Sudan, for their part, are also seeking their first win of the tournament after playing out a 1-1 draw with Congo Brazzaville in their opener.
