VfB Stuttgart secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Saturday, with Maximilian Mittelstädt’s early goal proving decisive at the MHP Arena.

Mittelstädt struck in the seventh minute after Grischa Prömel delivered a pass from the right flank.

The defender finished with a left-footed effort into the far corner to give Stuttgart the lead.

Stuttgart maintained their advantage at the break despite Bremen enjoying slightly more possession.

The hosts were more effective in front of goal, recording three shots on target against Bremen’s one in the opening half.

Bremen intensified their attacking efforts after the restart, dominating possession and creating several opportunities to level the score.

However, Stuttgart’s defensive organisation and goalkeeper Dennis Seimen’s impressive performance kept the visitors at bay.

Seimen made six saves during the encounter, including five in the second half, as Stuttgart withstood sustained pressure from Bremen.

The visitors also struggled with their delivery into the box, completing only four of 24 crosses.

Bremen finished with 23 shots compared to Stuttgart’s 13 and had more possession and penalty-area touches.

However, the hosts were more clinical, with Mittelstädt’s seventh-minute strike separating both sides at full-time.

The victory was also a testament to Stuttgart’s defensive resilience, as they recorded 47 clearances and successfully protected their lead despite Bremen’s late push.
