Bauchi Islamic school holds three-day prayer for ex-president Buhari

A Bauchi-based Islamic school has organized a special three-day prayer session for the repose of the soul of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13.

The prayers, which began on Monday, are being held at Madarasatu Tarbiyatul Aɗafal Wa Tahfizil Qur’an Kareem, located in the Bayan Nitel area of Bauchi metropolis.

The sessions will continue through Wednesday.

Speaking to journalists, the school’s director, Imam Abdullahi Hashimu, said the prayer initiative was the school’s humble way of honoring the late President, whose contributions to national development left a lasting impression.

“We are ordinary people with limited means. The only significant thing we can offer for the late President is prayers,” Imam Hashimu said.

“Islam teaches that the prayers of innocent children are quickly accepted by Almighty Allah, and that’s why we are engaging our pupils in this important exercise.”

Hashimu referenced Islamic teachings, noting that prayers from children hold spiritual significance.

He encouraged other schools and individuals across the country to do the same.

“Our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that if not for the presence of innocent children and animals, Allah would have punished the world. That shows the value of children’s prayers,” he explained.

He added that praying for the dead was also a reminder of human mortality and the need to build legacies that would be remembered with prayers.

“We believe that by praying for him and others who have passed on, we are sowing seeds. Someday, when we are no longer here, someone will remember and pray for us too,” he said.
