A prayer and remembrance gathering will be held on Monday, July 13, to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The event was announced by former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, who said the gathering would honour Buhari’s life, leadership and contributions to Nigeria.
According to Ahmad, family members, friends, former aides, political associates and supporters are expected to join in prayers and reflection to mark one year since the former president’s passing.
“On Monday, July 13, we will gather in solemn remembrance to honour the life, legacy and enduring service of our late boss, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, one year after his passing,” Ahmad said.
He described Buhari as a leader who devoted his life to serving Nigeria with “commitment, integrity, discipline and patriotism,” noting that his contributions would continue to occupy a place in the nation’s history.
Ahmad also said participants would pray for Allah to forgive the late president’s shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus and comfort his family as well as the nation.
“May Allah grant him eternal rest. Ameen,” he added.
Buhari died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness in London. His body was later returned to Nigeria, where he was laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
He served as Nigeria’s president from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023, after making history in 2015 as the first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent president in a presidential election. He secured a second term in 2019 and completed his tenure in 2023.
The anniversary event is expected to bring together those who worked closely with the late president and other Nigerians to reflect on his leadership and lasting impact on the country’s political landscape.
