Fulham captain, Calvin Bassey, has warned his teammates to expect a difficult encounter when they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.
Fulham are yet to pick up a point after three matches under new manager Álvaro Arbeloa, leaving them among the two teams still without a point in the early stages of the season alongside newly promoted Coventry City.
The Cottagers have, however, suffered narrow defeats in all three games, losing 3-2 to Chelsea and Crystal Palace before Sunderland edged them 1-0.
Nigeria international Bassey has worn the captain’s armband in Fulham’s opening three fixtures, with club skipper Tom Cairney still unavailable while recovering from a knee injury.
With Fulham seeking to end their poor start, Bassey said the squad has been working with Arbeloa to correct their shortcomings and prepare properly for the challenge posed by Liverpool.
“It’s not going to be easy. You know what’s coming when you play Liverpool; they have top players. It’s just about doing our homework and seeing how we can hurt them,” Bassey told Fulham’s official webpage.
“We talk with the manager about everything that might not have worked, and try and go into every game understanding more what he wants from us individually as players.
“He’ll set us up in the right way to tackle Liverpool.”
Bassey has played against Liverpool six times in his career, recording one victory and five defeats.
