Two men, two women and a 15-year-old girl have been charged following the death of a newborn baby girl who was found with stab wounds at a house in Sheffield, England, the United Kingdom.
The baby was discovered at a property on Holywell Heights in the Wincobank area on Sunday morning after police received a report raising concerns about her safety.
A post-mortem examination later established that the infant died from stab wounds.
South Yorkshire Police said four adults — two men aged 19 and 38, and two women aged 20 and 37 — were charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice.
The 15-year-old girl was charged with perverting the course of justice. She cannot be identified because of her age.
Police said the perverting the course of justice charge relates to alleged actions taken to conceal the killing of the infant.
Those charged were identified as Peter Horvath, 19, of Holywell Heights; Andrea Skopova, 20, formerly of Robey Street; Nina Horvathova, 37, of Holywell Heights; and Peter Horvath, 38, also of Holywell Heights.
All five suspects have been remanded in custody and are expected to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court.
Two other women, aged 26 and 37, who were arrested on suspicion of murder, have been released on bail while investigations continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward described the charges as an important development in the investigation.
“This is a significant step in our investigation into the tragic circumstances that resulted in the death of this baby girl.
“I would like to thank our communities, who I know will have been deeply impacted by this traumatic incident, for supporting us as we work through this intricate investigation.
“We would ask the public to avoid speculating and posting information online about this case while the legal process takes its course.
“Protecting the integrity of the criminal justice process is crucial to us securing justice for this little girl.”
Officers are expected to remain in the Holywell Heights area as they continue enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.
Police have urged members of the public to avoid speculation or sharing unverified information online while the legal proceedings are ongoing.
