Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has eased concerns over Gabriel’s fitness following the Gunners’ 2-0 victory against Olympiacos.
The Brazilian defender went down after a clash with goalkeeper David Raya late in the match, prompting fears of an injury. Gabriel received on-field treatment before being replaced by Cristhian Mosquera.
Despite the scare, Arteta insisted Gabriel is expected to be fine ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with West Ham on Saturday.
“He should be okay,” Arteta told reporters after the game (The Standard). “He felt something earlier, probably a kick in the first half, which made him a bit uncomfortable.
“He was still there in the second half, but we decided not to risk it. He’s played a lot of games and is coming back from a long-term injury, so we need to manage him carefully.”
The win saw Arsenal maintain a perfect start to their Champions League campaign, following their previous victory over Athletic Bilbao, with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka securing the triumph.
