Arsenal F.C. have been crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years after Manchester City F.C. were held to a 1-1 draw by AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
Needing a victory to keep the title race alive until the final day of the season, Manchester City fell behind in the 39th minute through a strike from Junior Kroupi.
Although Erling Haaland scored a late equaliser in stoppage time, it was not enough for Manager Pep Guardiola’s side to secure the win required to close the gap on Arsenal.
The result confirmed Arsenal as league champions before their final match of the season away to Crystal Palace F.C. on Sunday, turning the fixture into a title celebration for Manager Mikel Arteta and his players.
It marks Arsenal’s 14th English top-flight title, leaving them behind only Liverpool F.C. and Manchester United F.C., who have won 20 league crowns each.
The triumph also ends a long wait for the North London club, whose last league success came during the 2003-04 season when Manager Arsène Wenger guided the famous “Invincibles” side through an unbeaten campaign.
After finishing as runners-up in each of the last three seasons, Arsenal finally reclaimed the title and could yet complete an historic campaign.
Arteta’s side will face Paris Saint-Germain F.C. in the UEFA Champions League Final on May 30 as they chase a first-ever European crown.
