Super Eagles and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman, has reportedly caught the attention of Arsenal as the Gunners explore attacking reinforcements this summer.
The 27-year-old is facing an uncertain future in Bergamo after formally submitting a transfer request.
Lookman, who is under contract at the Gewiss Stadium until June 2027, enjoyed a stellar 2023/24 Serie A campaign, netting 15 goals and providing five assists in 31 appearances.
His contributions were pivotal in guiding Gian Piero Gasperini’s side to a third-place finish and a Champions League return.
Since joining Atalanta three years ago, the Nigeria international has developed into one of Europe’s most exciting and consistent attacking threats.
His dynamic displays have not only made him a fan favourite in Bergamo but also attracted interest from some of the continent’s biggest clubs.
Transfer Request Sparks Speculation
Last week, Lookman issued a detailed statement confirming he had handed in a transfer request, describing the decision as the result of an “extremely difficult” phase in his career.
He revealed that club officials previously assured him he could leave if a “fair offer” arrived. According to him, such an offer has already been made by an unnamed club, but Atalanta blocked the move.
Atalanta’s Stance
Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi has since confirmed that an agreement exists for Lookman’s potential departure but only to “top clubs” outside Serie A.
Citing a previous €20m approach from PSG they turned down, Percassi emphasised that the final decision ultimately rests with the club.
Reports from The Guardian indicated that Napoli and Atletico Madrid are among those monitoring the situation. Inter Milan are also said to have tabled two bids, the latest worth €45m (£38.1m) with add-ons, both of which were rejected.
Arsenal Enter the Frame
According to The Sun’s Jordan Davies, Arsenal are closely following developments, viewing Lookman as a possible alternative if they fail to land Eberechi Eze.
The arrival of another forward at the Emirates could also see Leandro Trossard depart.
Atalanta are reportedly holding out for at least £45m before sanctioning any deal for the Nigerian forward.
With the player eager for a new challenge and Arsenal searching for firepower, this could be one of the transfer sagas to watch before the window closes.
