The Action Peoples Party has expressed its support for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the leadership of local government councils in the state. The party, which holds 22 out of the 23 chairmanship positions, described Fubara’s decision as a demonstration of leadership and commitment to the rule of law.
In a statement, APP praised Fubara’s actions following his state broadcast on Sunday, where he revealed that he had met with his legal team and would be obtaining the Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court’s ruling by Friday, March 7, 2025.
The Supreme Court had ruled on Friday, declaring the October 5, 2024, Rivers State Local Government elections invalid, among other decisions.
APP’s National Chairman, Barr. Uche Nnadi, issued a statement commending Fubara for his position on local government administration. The party also supported the governor’s directive for the Heads of Local Government Administration to take control of the 23 local government councils immediately.
Furthermore, APP backed Fubara’s instruction to the chairmen elected under its platform to hand over their responsibilities to the HLGAs by Monday, March 3, 2025. The party reiterated its commitment to winning all 23 local government council chairmanship positions in future elections and urged its members, supporters, and the people of Rivers State to remain faithful to both the APP and Fubara’s administration.
