Anambra govt raises alarm over fake ₦25,000 campaign fund portal

The Anambra State Government has cautioned residents against engaging with a fraudulent online portal claiming to offer ₦25,000 in “campaign support funds” allegedly linked to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The warning was issued in a statement on Friday by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, who described the portal as a scam designed to harvest citizens’ personal information.

According to Mefor, the platform, which has been circulated widely on social media, was never created, authorised, or endorsed by the state government or the governor.

“The Anambra State Government wishes to make it clear that neither the governor nor the government has initiated any programme requiring citizens to submit personal details through external links in exchange for money,” Mefor stated.

“The so-called ₦25,000 campaign fund attributed to Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo is fake and should be completely ignored.”

He urged members of the public to remain security-conscious and avoid falling victim to online schemes that exploit political activities or public officeholders’ names.

“We advise ndị Anambra and the general public to be vigilant and not engage with suspicious online links. Do not release sensitive personal information to unknown platforms trying to cash in on the governor’s reputation,” he added.

Mefor encouraged residents to verify any government-related announcements through official state websites and verified communication channels.

The fake empowerment portal reportedly gained traction earlier in the week, raising concerns among residents ahead of the November 8 governorship election.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has reiterated its readiness for the poll across the state’s 5,718 wards. The National Commissioner supervising Anambra, Dr. Kenneth Ikeagu, confirmed that mock accreditation and logistics arrangements have been concluded.

The government urged residents to remain cautious and avoid all forms of digital scams disguised as political outreach.
