Nice secured their first Ligue 1 victory of the season with a 2-1 win over Lille on Sunday, despite a late fightback from the visitors.
Nice took the lead in the 22nd minute when Lille defender Nathan Ngoy turned the ball into his own net, giving the hosts an advantage they maintained into the second half.
Mohamed Amoura doubled Nice’s lead in the 67th minute, finishing from Gauthier Hein’s pass to put the hosts in a strong position.
Lille reduced the deficit 12 minutes later through Ayase Ueda after VAR confirmed the goal, setting up a tense finish.
The visitors dominated possession with 58.6 per cent and registered 20 attempts, but Nice goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf produced seven saves to deny Lille an equaliser.
Nice’s defence also had to withstand sustained pressure, making 43 clearances as they held on for the three points.
The result lifted Nice from 15th to 14th in the Ligue 1 table, while Lille remained fourth. Nice will host Strasbourg in their next league game, with Lille set to welcome Le Havre.
