The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River State, Alphonsus Eba, has dismissed claims of his impeachment, calling them a “joke taken too far.”
Vanguard reported that in a phone interview, Eba stated, “My purported impeachment is a joke taking too far. God will speak at the appropriate time. I won’t say more than this for now.”
The controversy erupted on Thursday, December 4, 2025, when the APC’s State Executive Committee declared Eba removed from office during an emergency session at the party’s State Secretariat in Calabar.
According to the SEC, 30 out of 32 members voted against Eba continuing as state chairman.
The decision followed a vote of no confidence reportedly passed by the 196 ward chairmen of the APC in Cross River State. Subsequently, the State Working Committee moved to appoint an acting chairman, pending approval from the party’s National Working Committee.
The motion for appointing an acting chairman was introduced by the State Welfare Secretary, Mr. Okara Ekawu, and supported by the state treasurer, Dr. Mathew Egom.
Ekawu referenced Article 17, Subsection 6 of the APC Constitution as justification for the interim leadership.
Despite the SEC’s actions, Eba has refused to acknowledge the purported impeachment, insisting that the move is unjust and premature.
