AC Milan secured a 2-1 victory over Genoa in their Serie A clash on Sunday, with Cisse and Christian Pulisic scoring early before the hosts mounted a late comeback attempt at the Marassi Stadium.
The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute when Cisse capitalised on a defensive error by Genoa’s Vasquez, finishing a pass from Adrien Rabiot.
Milan doubled their advantage seven minutes later as Pulisic converted a setup from Ramos after Marcandalli lost possession.
Genoa attempted to respond, with Maignan called into action several times before the break.
Osmajic also had a goal ruled out for offside in the 30th minute as the hosts struggled to turn their chances into goals.
The second half saw both sides battle for control, with Milan maintaining their advantage despite Genoa’s attempts to reduce the deficit.
A controversial incident occurred in the 52nd minute when Marcandalli was booked for a foul on Rabiot, prompting protests from Milan’s bench.
Three members of the visitors’ technical staff, including the team doctor, were subsequently sent off.
Genoa intensified their pressure in the closing stages, and their persistence paid off in the 88th minute when Ellertsson fired a precise left-footed effort from the edge of the box past Maignan after El Shaarawy’s free-kick was blocked.
The hosts continued to push for an equaliser deep into stoppage time, but Milan held firm to secure all three points.
A late header from Ehizibue narrowly missed the target in the 97th minute, with the effort also ruled offside.
The victory takes Milan to 24 points, while Genoa remain on 13 points after the defeat.
Ruben Amorim’s side will next host Frosinone on November 22, while Genoa travel to Sassuolo on the same day.
