Cagliari secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Frosinone in their Serie A encounter on Saturday, with goalkeeper Elia Caprile producing an outstanding performance to preserve their lead at the Unipol Domus.
Michel Adopo scored the decisive goal in the 38th minute, finishing off a well-worked attacking move initiated by Paul Mendy.
Adopo controlled the opportunity and fired a right-footed effort into the net to give the hosts the advantage.
However, Cagliari had to withstand sustained pressure from their visitors, who dominated possession and created several scoring opportunities but were repeatedly frustrated by Caprile.
Frosinone registered 29 shots, with nine on target, compared to Cagliari’s 14 attempts.
They also enjoyed 64 per cent possession and won 13 corners but failed to find a way past the home side’s goalkeeper.
Caprile was particularly impressive after the break, producing a series of important saves to deny Frosinone an equaliser.
He stopped all nine shots on target, including seven efforts from inside the penalty area, and was instrumental in securing the victory for Fabio Pisacane’s men.
The goalkeeper’s exceptional display earned him a perfect 10 rating, making him the highest-rated player in the encounter.
He also emerged as the fans’ choice for Player of the Match, receiving 430 votes out of 725.
Despite Frosinone’s attacking dominance, Cagliari held on to their narrow advantage until the final whistle to claim all three points, with Adopo’s first-half strike and Caprile’s goalkeeping heroics proving decisive.
