The Association of Medical and Dental Officers, Oyo State chapter, has suspended its industrial action and directed members to return to work following a week-long strike.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the doctors resumed duty on Monday after embarking on the strike on October 26.
Medical officers have returned to work at several health facilities, including Ring Road State Hospital, Government Chest Hospital, Jericho Specialist Hospital and Oni Memorial Children Hospital.
The suspension of the industrial action followed the association’s decision to halt the strike, which was triggered by demands for improved welfare, payment of outstanding allowances and the recruitment of additional medical officers.
In a statement on Monday, the AMDO General Secretary, Dr Abdulazeez Gbadamosi, said the decision was reached at an emergency congress held on Sunday.
He said the “Executive Council appreciated members for their strict compliance with the strike and the confidence reposed in its leadership.”
Gbadamosi also expressed appreciation to elders who, according to him, “contributed to the mediation and partial restoration of industrial harmony.”
The general secretary said the “congress resolved to suspend the strike from November 2 to November 15 to allow for further negotiations.”
He subsequently directed members to resume full clinical activities from 8am on Monday, adding that the progress of negotiations would be reviewed in due course.
