UCL: Roma thrash Slovan Bratislava 4-0 to claim first win

AS Roma recorded their first UEFA Champions League victory of the season with a convincing 4-0 win over Slovan Bratislava, extending their unbeaten run in all competitions to two matches.

Mario Hermoso opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, while Nahuel Molina, Niccolò Pisilli and Donyell Malen also found the net as Roma dominated the encounter.

Roma started strongly, creating several opportunities through Malen, Pisilli and Lorenzo Pellegrini.

However, Slovan goalkeeper Dominik Takac and defender Kenan Bajric initially kept the hosts at bay with a series of important interventions.

The breakthrough arrived when Pellegrini won a free-kick and delivered the ball into the penalty area.

Daniele Ghilardi headed it across goal, allowing Hermoso to nod home from close range.

Molina doubled Roma’s advantage in the 39th minute, reacting quickest after Takac parried Malen’s effort to send the rebound into the net.

Roma maintained their attacking pressure after the break, with Malen continuing to threaten the visitors’ defence.

Although the Dutch forward missed several opportunities, he contributed to the hosts’ third goal.

Matias Soulé prevented Tigran Barseghyan from allowing the ball to run out of play before setting up the move that led to Pisilli finishing and making it 3-0.

Malen then completed the scoring from the penalty spot after Slovan defender Cesar Blackman brought down Wesley while attempting to stop the Brazilian’s advance.

The forward calmly sent his spot-kick into the bottom corner to seal Roma’s emphatic victory.

Both Malen and Wesley were substituted shortly afterwards, with Roma already enjoying a comfortable lead.

The Italian side continued to push for more goals, but Ghilardi saw a late effort ruled out for offside as Takac made further saves to prevent a heavier defeat.

The result gives Roma their first Champions League win of the campaign after scoring in each of their opening three league-phase matches without previously securing victory.

For Slovan Bratislava, the defeat leaves them at the bottom of the standings after conceding 13 goals in three matches while scoring just once.

Roma’s only defeat of the season remains their loss to Real Madrid, with the Italian club now recording consecutive victories across all competitions.

Pisilli was named Man of the Match for his impressive performance in Roma’s commanding display.
