UCL: Bodø/Glimt stun Dortmund 1-0

Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt secured a 1-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, thanks to Fredrik Sjøvold’s second-half strike at Aspmyra Stadion.

Sjøvold scored the decisive goal in the 52nd minute, finishing off a well-worked attacking move to hand the hosts all three points in their second-round encounter.

The defender found the net after Sondre Auklend delivered a precise cross into the box following a passing move involving Haitam Aleesami, Jostein Gundersen and Patrick Berg.

Sjøvold connected with his left foot and directed the ball into the bottom corner.

Bodø/Glimt had enjoyed the better of the opening half, controlling possession and creating more promising opportunities, although neither side managed to score before the break.

Dortmund improved after the interval, enjoying more possession and putting the hosts under sustained pressure in search of an equaliser.

However, Bodø/Glimt remained organised defensively and frustrated the German visitors.

The Bundesliga side created several opportunities in the second half, recording four shots on target and winning seven corners, but they could not find a way past the home defence.

Goalkeeper Nikita Haikin played an important role in preserving Bodø/Glimt’s lead, making four saves as the hosts held on for the victory.

Despite Dortmund finishing with 52 per cent possession and registering more shots on target, Bodø/Glimt proved more efficient in the attacking third.

The Norwegian side also won more duels and were stronger in the air, limiting the visitors’ effectiveness from crosses.

Sjøvold delivered an impressive performance at both ends of the pitch, contributing the winning goal alongside five tackles, two interceptions and seven ball recoveries.

Auklend also played a key role, providing the assist for the decisive strike and contributing defensively as Bodø/Glimt secured a clean sheet.

The victory rewarded the Norwegian side’s clinical finishing and disciplined defending, while Dortmund were left to rue their inability to convert their second-half pressure into a goal.
