Nations League: Gibraltar, Andorra play goalless

Gibraltar and Andorra played out a goalless draw at Europa Sports Park on Sunday in their UEFA Nations League League D, Group 1 encounter.

Andorra created the clearer opportunities and finished with 11 attempts, including four on target, while Gibraltar managed only one effort on target.

The visitors also recorded an expected goals figure of 0.73 compared with Gibraltar’s 0.28.

Despite Andorra’s attacking advantage, Gibraltar’s disciplined defensive display kept the visitors from finding a breakthrough.

The hosts made 31 clearances, won 58 per cent of their duels and completed 17 tackles, with goalkeeper Bradley Banda making four saves.

Andorra had three major opportunities but failed to convert any of them.

Moisés San Nicolás, Aron Rodrigo and Albert Rosas were among those who came close, as Gibraltar repeatedly survived pressure inside their penalty area.

The hosts improved after the break, producing five attempts and earning four corners, but they struggled to create clear openings.

Andorra, meanwhile, maintained their territorial advantage and recorded 18 touches in Gibraltar’s box compared with nine by the hosts.

Andorra’s Pau Babot was one of the standout performers, completing 38 of his 46 passes and winning six aerial duels.

He also made an important clearance off the line as both sides battled for control in a tightly contested encounter.

Neither team could produce the decisive moment during three minutes of added time, leaving the points shared after a match in which defensive organisation ultimately outweighed attacking quality.
