A yet-to-be-identified woman was crushed to death by a truck after falling from a motorcycle on the Agbara-Lusada Expressway in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The Punch reported that the fatal crash occurred around 7pm on Saturday at Cashier Bus Stop along the expressway, according to an eyewitness identified as Kunle.
The eyewitness said the woman was a passenger on the motorcycle when she fell beneath the truck while the rider was attempting to overtake it.
He said, “The accident involved a woman who was a passenger on a motorcycle. The motorcycle tried to overtake the truck, and in the process, the passenger, who was a woman, fell and was crushed by the truck.”
The incident was confirmed to our correspondent on Sunday by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi.
Akinbiyi said the vehicles involved were a white Howo truck with registration number T-34611LA and two motorcycles whose registration numbers were not displayed.
According to him, eyewitnesses reported that one of the motorcycle riders allegedly attempted an improper overtaking manoeuvre, causing the female passenger to fall under the truck.
“The RTA/RTC was caused by wrong overtaking on the part of the Okada rider, which led one of the Okada passengers to fall under the truck, which claimed her life,” Akinbiyi said.
He disclosed that five people, comprising three males and two females, were involved in the crash, while two victims, a male and a female, sustained injuries.
Akinbiyi added that the injured victims were taken to a hospital by a good Samaritan before TRACE operatives arrived at the scene.
He said the deceased’s remains had been taken away by her family, while the truck was moved to police custody for further investigation.
The TRACE spokesperson added that TRACE operatives and PAPA OSCAR responders attended to the crash and restored normal traffic flow along the expressway.
