Lazio defeated Venezia 2-0 on Saturday to move joint-top of the Serie A table after five matches.
Venezia had the better chances in the first half, with John Yeboah, Simon Sohm and Antoine Hainaut all threatening the visitors’ goal.
Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas was called into action several times, producing important saves to keep the score level.
He denied Yeboah from the penalty spot before also stopping efforts from Sohm and Hainaut.
Lazio’s best opportunity before the break fell to Matteo Cancellieri, who cut inside from the right but curled his effort narrowly wide.
The visitors improved after the interval and took the lead from the penalty spot.
Yeboah fouled Kenneth Taylor inside the area, allowing Lazio captain Mattia Zaccagni to send the resulting penalty into the top-left corner.
Lazio doubled their advantage on the hour when former Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares delivered a well-placed cross for Tijjani Noslin, who headed home from close range.
The victory gives Lazio 13 points from their opening five Serie A matches, their best-ever start to a league campaign. Venezia, meanwhile, remain without a point after five games.
