Coventry City secured their first Premier League victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday.
Jay DaSilva scored the decisive goal 10 minutes into the second half, ending Coventry’s wait for a league win in the top flight that had stretched back to April 2001.
Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, had lost their opening four league matches without scoring but produced a disciplined display to claim their first points since returning to the Premier League.
Forest started brightly and created several opportunities in the opening half, with James McAtee testing goalkeeper Carl Rushworth inside the opening minute.
McAtee later had another effort blocked, while Dan Ndoye and Liam Delap also went close as the hosts dominated possession and territory.
Coventry gradually settled into the contest after the interval and eventually broke the deadlock through DaSilva.
The midfielder raced onto Rushworth’s long kick, got past Daniel Munoz and fired into the net to put the visitors ahead.
Forest pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages and came close when substitute Igor Jesus was denied by an acrobatic clearance from Bobby Thomas.
Jesus appeared to have levelled in the 86th minute after capitalising on a defensive mistake, but the goal was overturned following a VAR review.
Referee Jarred Gillett was sent to the pitchside monitor and ruled that Jesus had clipped Caleb Yirenkyi’s ankle before scoring, leaving Coventry to celebrate a historic three points.
The defeat extended Forest’s struggles at home, with the hosts failing to score in their first three league matches at the City Ground this season.
