Chelsea suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Brentford at the Gtech Stadium on Friday, as the Bees produced a strong second-half display to claim all three points in the Premier League.
The first half ended goalless, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut opportunities.
Chelsea had an early chance when Neto tested Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who made a fine save after Lewis-Potter failed to deal with a cross.
Brentford, however, grew into the contest and repeatedly looked to exploit the left side through Lewis-Potter,
Janelt and Schade. Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana stood out for the visitors, making several important interventions to keep the hosts at bay.
The deadlock was finally broken after the restart. Damsgaard delivered a corner from the left, with Shuster heading the ball back across goal for Antoni to finish from close range and give Brentford the lead.
Chelsea attempted to respond, with manager Xabi Alonso introducing Cucurella and Acheampong, but Brentford remained dangerous on the counter.
The hosts almost doubled their advantage before Chelsea enjoyed a spell of pressure, including several corners and a blocked effort from Cucurella.
Brentford eventually extended their lead after Ajer intercepted a misplaced Chelsea pass and launched a counter-attack.
Schade’s initial effort was blocked by Martinez, but Thiago reacted quickest to the rebound and fired home.
There was still time for Brentford to add a third in stoppage time.
Substitute Fabio Carvalho raced through on goal following another swift counter-attack before calmly finishing in the 94th minute to complete a convincing 3-0 victory.
The result moved Brentford up to third place with nine points, while Chelsea remained seventh on seven points after five league matches.
