Serie A: Roma beat Torino 2-0 to maintain perfect start

AS Roma maintained their perfect start to the Serie A season on Monday after defeating Torino 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

Donyell Malen opened the scoring in the 40th minute after Paulo Dybala capitalised on a poor pass from Torino goalkeeper Lucas Perri.

Dybala quickly set up Malen, whose initial effort was blocked, before the Dutch forward reacted fastest to prod the loose ball into the net from close range.

Roma had threatened earlier, with Malen heading over from a Mario Hermoso cross and later seeing another effort deflected wide.

Torino also created opportunities, but Rolando Mandragora was denied by Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar, while Paulo Dybala headed wide for the visitors.

Torino increased the pressure after the restart and came close to an equaliser through Giovanni Simeone.

The striker beat Roma’s offside trap but was denied by Svilar, who raced off his line to block his attempted finish.

Roma remained dangerous as the game progressed, with Nahuel Molina forcing Perri into a save with a low effort.

Leonardo Balerdi also made an important defensive intervention to halt Daniel Braganca’s progress.

Torino’s hopes of rescuing a point were ended in stoppage time when Roma doubled their advantage.

Gianluca Mancini kept the ball in play near the by-line before Niccolò Pisilli finished with an angled drive in the 93rd minute.

The victory leaves Roma with four wins from four Serie A matches, maintaining their 100 per cent record.

Their perfect league run comes despite a 1-1 draw away to Fenerbahce in their Champions League opener on Thursday.
