Iglesias seals late win
Sevilla secured a 1-0
victory over Valencia on Friday as Juan Iglesias scored in the 81st minute to hand the hosts three points in their La Liga clash at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
Sevilla created the better opportunities throughout the encounter, finishing with 15 shots compared with Valencia’s four, although the visitors enjoyed a slight advantage in possession.
Valencia held 51 per cent of the ball and completed 426 passes at an 85 per cent accuracy rate.
However, their greater control in possession failed to translate into meaningful attacking opportunities.
Sevilla, meanwhile, registered five shots on target and continued to apply pressure as the game remained goalless for much of the evening.
Their persistence eventually paid off when Iglesias found the breakthrough nine minutes from full time.
The victory gives Sevilla 10 points from their opening five matches and strengthens their promising start to the 2026/27 La Liga campaign.
For Valencia, the defeat extends their wait for a first league victory of the season.
They had entered the fixture with just one point from their opening four matches after suffering a heavy 5-0 loss to Barcelona in their previous outing.
Despite having more possession against Sevilla, Valencia managed only one shot on target, underlining their struggles in the final third.
Sevilla will next travel to face Deportivo La Coruña on September 16 before hosting Barcelona on September 19, while Valencia are scheduled to visit Deportivo Alavés on September 15 and then welcome Real Sociedad to Mestalla on September 20.
