West Ham United midfielder, Edson Alvarez, has denied allegations linking him to a kidnapping plot in Mexico, warning that he has instructed his lawyers to take legal action against those spreading the claims.
The Mexico international broke his silence after reports in his home country allegedly connected him and his partner to a kidnapping case said to have involved his former partner’s father.
Alvarez, who has largely stayed away from controversy during his professional career, said he had initially chosen not to respond to the reports in the hope that they would disappear.
However, he decided to address the allegations after they continued to affect his reputation.
In a statement shared on his official social media accounts, the 28-year-old midfielder said, “In light of the publications and statements that have circulated recently, I believe it is necessary to address this matter clearly and firmly. I categorically reject any allegation or attempt to associate my name with events, conflicts, or conduct that are entirely unrelated to me.”
The West Ham star also challenged anyone with evidence of wrongdoing against him to present it through the appropriate legal channels.
“However, there are limits, and attributing knowledge, responsibility, or involvement in matters of this nature to me without presenting a single piece of evidence clearly crosses that line. If anyone believes they have evidence of any wrongdoing on my part, there are authorities, prosecutors, and courts before which they can present it.”
Alvarez further revealed that his legal team would pursue action against those responsible for what he described as false allegations.
“I will not allow my name to be used to fuel conflicts between third parties or to gain media exposure. Therefore, given the seriousness of the statements that have been made, I have instructed my legal team to evaluate and pursue the appropriate legal action against any person who makes or disseminates false allegations against me.”
He added that he had worked hard throughout his career to maintain a positive reputation, stressing the values instilled in him by his family.
“Throughout nearly ten years of my professional career, I have made every effort to stay away from media scandals and to have my name recognised for my work both on and off the pitch. I come from a hardworking and honourable family that taught me that a reputation is built over many years through hard work, discipline, and conduct.”
Alvarez is now focused on his football career at West Ham, having joined the club from Ajax in 2023 and made 74 appearances for the Hammers.
