Serie A: Dovbyk rescues point for Bologna against Sassuolo

Bologna secured their first Serie A point of the season after Artem Dovbyk struck in stoppage time to earn a 2-2 draw against Sassuolo in a dramatic derby on Sunday.

Sassuolo took the lead after 19 minutes when Josh Doig finished from inside the box following Simone Cinquegrano’s cut-back, giving the visitors an early advantage.

Bologna struggled to create clear chances but eventually levelled five minutes after the restart. Roberto Piccoli rose highest to head Juan Miranda’s corner past the Sassuolo goalkeeper.

The hosts’ joy was short-lived, however, as Sassuolo restored their lead six minutes later.

Vasilije Adzic reacted quickest after his initial effort was deflected, firing the rebound into the bottom corner from close range to put Sassuolo 2-1 ahead.

Bologna pushed forward in search of another equaliser, with Federico Bernardeschi and Piccoli both coming close before substitute Dovbyk provided the late breakthrough.

In the 91st minute, Sassuolo goalkeeper Arijanet Muric could only parry a shot from Libra, allowing Dovbyk to react quickly and slot home the rebound from 12 yards.

The goal was Dovbyk’s first Serie A strike since January 2026 and rescued Bologna from what would have been their third consecutive league defeat.

The match ended on a sour note for Bologna coach Domenico Tedesco, who was shown a red card for dissent on the touchline.
