Tottenham Hotspur’s difficult start to the new Premier League season continued on Saturday as they were held to a goalless draw by Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
The result leaves Spurs still without a league goal after their opening three matches of the campaign, a feat they have not experienced since 1980.
Tottenham entered the fixture under growing pressure after consecutive defeats to Brentford and Newcastle in their first two games.
Despite spending close to £400 million during the summer transfer window, Roberto De Zerbi’s side have struggled to produce an attacking threat.
Forest thought they had taken the lead when Neco Williams forced the ball over the line from close range.
However, the goal was reviewed by VAR and eventually ruled out for handball.
Tottenham were unable to find a response as Forest defended their advantage in the contest, with Spurs’ forwards failing to convert their opportunities.
The draw gives Tottenham their first point of the season, but their continued failure to score will increase scrutiny on De Zerbi and his expensively assembled squad.
Spurs will now look to end their worrying scoring drought in their next Premier League fixture.
