Kano consumer council seizes 419 cartons of expired agrochemicals

The Kano State Consumer Protection Council has confiscated 419 cartons of expired agricultural chemicals discovered at a warehouse along Club Road in the Kano metropolis.

The Executive Secretary of the council, Dr Ibrahim Garba-Muhammad, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Jamilu Mustapha.

Garba-Muhammad said the enforcement operation followed intelligence received by the council concerning the storage of expired agrochemicals at the location.

He said there were indications that efforts were being made to modify the condition of the products and put them back into circulation.

According to him, officials of the council recovered the chemicals and immediately sealed the premises where they were stored.

“The raid was carried out following credible intelligence indicating that the expired chemicals had been stockpiled at the location.”

He added that the warehouse would remain sealed while investigations continue and legal proceedings are initiated where necessary.

The executive secretary described the action as part of the council’s broader campaign to stop expired, adulterated and potentially dangerous products from reaching consumers in Kano State.

He also appealed to traders, companies and individuals to report products they suspect may be expired, adulterated or otherwise unsuitable for use through the council’s designated communication channels.

The KCPC boss expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for its continued support, saying the council would continue to take necessary enforcement measures to protect consumers.
