Serie A: Milan beat Torino 2-1, hand Amorim winning start

Ruben Amorim began his reign as AC Milan head coach on a winning note as the Rossoneri secured a 2-1 victory away to Torino in their Serie A opener on Sunday.

Milan struggled to break down a disciplined Torino side during the opening hour, with the hosts keeping the visitors largely under control.

Samuel Chukwueze provided Milan’s biggest threat in the first half, forcing Torino goalkeeper Diego Mascardi into a save after a powerful run into the box.

Amorim’s second-half substitutions ultimately changed the game.

The Portuguese manager introduced Luka Modrić and Adrien Rabiot in the 57th minute, and both players immediately made an impact.

Rabiot played a key role in the opening goal, combining with Yunus Musah before sending a dangerous cross into the area.

Alphadjo Cisse reacted quickest to fire Milan ahead in the 64th minute and register his first Serie A goal.

Just three minutes later, Modrić picked out Chukwueze on the right, with the Nigerian winger delivering a teasing cross that Rabiot converted with a header to double Milan’s advantage.

Torino refused to give up and came close to pulling one back, with Alieu Njie hitting the post and Zakaria Aboukhlal missing from close range.

Che Adams eventually gave the hosts hope by scoring with an excellent finish in stoppage time, but Torino could not find an equaliser.

The victory gives Amorim a perfect start to his Milan tenure, with his substitutes proving decisive in securing all three points.
