Ligue 1: Dier’s goal hands Monaco 1-0 win over Le Havre

Eric Dier scored the only goal as Monaco began their Ligue 1 campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory away to Le Havre on Sunday.

The England international broke the deadlock in the 14th minute, rising highest to meet Flávio Nazinho’s delivery from a corner and directing a glancing header into the roof of the net.

Dier then produced an impressive defensive display to help Monaco protect their narrow advantage.

The centre-back made 10 clearances, won four aerial duels and blocked one shot as Le Havre applied sustained pressure.

The hosts repeatedly looked to exploit Monaco with crosses, sending 32 deliveries into the box, but Dier remained composed and effective in dealing with the danger.

His commanding performance ensured Monaco held on for three valuable points and handed Felipe Luis a winning start in Ligue 1.

Monaco will next host Górnik in the UEFA Conference League, while Le Havre travel to Lyon in their next league fixture.
