Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, following his victory in Saturday’s governorship election.
Davido shared a video of himself celebrating shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner of the poll.
Reacting to the result, the singer wrote, “We did it, Uncle.”
In the video, Davido could be seen jubilating as the final result was announced, with members of his team joining in the celebration.
He had closely followed the collation of results and remained publicly involved in his uncle’s campaign throughout the election.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
The governor won in 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji prevailed in 11.
The results were formally declared by the State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, early Sunday.
Davido had played an active role in Adeleke’s re-election campaign, participating in rallies and grassroots mobilisation while using his considerable social media following to canvass support for the governor.
The singer also served as Chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Campaign Council and was prominent in the campaign’s final stages.
Adeleke’s victory gives him another four-year term in office and marks his second consecutive governorship win in Osun.
He first became governor in 2022 after defeating the then-incumbent, Adegboyega Oyetola.
Following the declaration, supporters gathered in parts of the state, including Osogbo and Ede, to celebrate the governor’s return to office.
