Brandon Hudspeth returns as US Consul General in Lagos

Brandon Hudspeth has been appointed the new United States Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, returning to Nigeria several years after serving at the diplomatic mission.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria announced his return in a statement, describing Hudspeth as an experienced diplomat with a strong understanding of Nigeria and extensive international experience.

Hudspeth previously served as Chief of the Political-Economic Section at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos and also served as Acting Consul General during his earlier tour in Nigeria.

His previous work in Lagos included engagement on political, economic and environmental issues.

Before his latest appointment, Hudspeth served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Namibia, where he was involved in diplomatic engagements covering bilateral relations, health, development and other areas of cooperation. U.S. Embassy records confirm his service as Deputy Chief of Mission in Windhoek.

His diplomatic career has also taken him to the Philippines, Mali, Cuba and Afghanistan, while he has served in Washington, including assignments at the State Department’s Operations Center and Bureau of African Affairs.

Welcoming him back to Nigeria, the U.S. Mission said his return would provide an opportunity to build on existing diplomatic relations between the United States and Nigeria.

“Hudspeth brings extensive global experience and a deep familiarity with Nigeria to the role,” the mission said, expressing confidence that his leadership would help strengthen the longstanding partnership between both countries.

Hudspeth’s return also marks a continuation of his engagement with Nigeria, where he previously participated in initiatives involving government officials, civil society and other stakeholders.

His appointment comes as the United States and Nigeria continue to cooperate across areas including trade and investment, security, health, democracy, education and people-to-people relations.
