Turkish club Caykur Rizespor reportedly eye Awoniyi

Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has reportedly emerged as a potential target for Turkish Super Lig side Caykur Rizespor ahead of the new season.

The Black Sea club are reportedly keen to bolster their attacking options and have identified the Nottingham Forest forward as one of the players they could pursue.

Awoniyi endured a difficult 2025/26 campaign at Forest, with persistent injury problems limiting his opportunities and preventing him from establishing himself as a regular in the team.

The 29-year-old was left out of Forest’s UEFA Europa League squad and only returned to the Premier League squad after compatriot Ola Aina suffered an injury that sidelined him for much of the first half of the season.

The former Union Berlin striker made 17 Premier League appearances last season, scoring four goals and providing one assist.

With Igor Jesus and Chris Wood reportedly ahead of him in Forest’s attacking pecking order, Awoniyi could consider a move elsewhere in search of more consistent playing time.

The Nigeria international has featured regularly for Forest during pre-season, but it remains uncertain whether his performances have been enough to convince new manager Oliver Gleaner to include him prominently in his plans for the upcoming campaign.

A move to Turkey could therefore provide Awoniyi with an opportunity to revive his career and secure regular first-team football.
