The family of late Nollywood actress, Temitope Osoba, has appealed to the public to stop spreading unverified reports about the circumstances surrounding her death, describing the circulating claims as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Thursday through the actress’ official Instagram page, the Awonuga/Osoba family expressed sadness over what it called the growing spread of misinformation following her passing.
The family said the reports making the rounds on social media and some blogs were inaccurate and had not been authorised by them.
“At this difficult time, we wish to categorically state that the numerous claims circulating on social media and various blogs regarding the circumstances surrounding her death are false, speculative and entirely unauthorised,” the statement read.
The family urged members of the public to avoid sharing unverified information, noting that such reports only worsen the pain they are already experiencing.
“We respectfully urge the public to refrain from sharing or promoting misinformation that only adds to the pain our family is already enduring,” the family said.
It also appealed for understanding and privacy as relatives continue to mourn the actress.
“We kindly ask that everyone allow us the dignity, privacy and time to grieve without the burden of unfounded rumours and sensational narratives,” the statement added.
According to the family, any official information concerning Osoba’s death will only be released through authorised family representatives and official communication channels.
“Should there be any information the family wishes to make public, it will be communicated through our official channels and by authorised representatives only. We ask the public and members of the media to rely solely on those official statements and to disregard all unverified reports,” the statement said.
The family thanked friends, fans and well-wishers for their prayers, condolences and support, while urging the public to honour the late actress’ memory by respecting their privacy during the mourning period.
