2027 Elections: Ogun group The Convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Armstrong Akintunde, has said the movement’s recent solidarity walk in Abeokuta was organised to rally support for President Bola Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Punch reported that Akintunde made the remarks while addressing participants at the Ake Palace after the procession, which drew hundreds of youths, students, APC members and supporters from different parts of the state, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.
He explained that the event was designed to mobilise young people behind Tinubu’s expected re-election bid, Abiodun’s senatorial ambition and Adeola’s governorship aspiration in Ogun State.
According to him, the initiative was motivated by the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, alongside the developmental strides and empowerment programmes credited to Governor Abiodun and Senator Adeola.
He noted that the march also sought to deepen youth involvement in politics while reaffirming the participants’ loyalty to the APC.
Akintunde said, “The solidarity walk is for our three leaders: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi).
“It is a demonstration of our confidence in their leadership and our commitment to supporting them ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
He further praised Adeola for his investments in youth empowerment and infrastructure projects across Ogun State, expressing optimism that the APC would secure victory in the 2027 polls.
“We have every reason to support our leaders because we are confident that, come 2027, they will record a landslide victory.
“Over the past three years, President Tinubu’s reforms and Senator Yayi’s track record in empowerment, infrastructure development and constituency projects have continued to inspire many young people to support their leadership,” he added.
The procession commenced at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta, with participants moving peacefully through major roads while displaying banners and placards and chanting slogans in support of Tinubu, Abiodun and Adeola.
Also speaking at the Ake Palace, co-convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement and former member of the House of Representatives for Ijebu Central Federal Constituency, Kehinde Odeneye, described the exercise as peaceful and well coordinated.
He applauded Akintunde for fostering unity within the movement, particularly among its youth and student wings.
“The youth and student wings of the movement conducted this peaceful and orderly exercise under our supervision. This initiative promotes unity, encourages active political participation and strengthens youth engagement within the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State,” Odeneye said.
He added, “We also want the public to know that we remain firmly aligned with our leaders and fully support the position expressed by our convener.
“They have consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership, and we are pleased to organise this exercise in support of their vision as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.”
