NDA alerts Kaduna residents over explosive blasts during cadet exercise

The Nigerian Defence Academy has alerted residents around its Afaka facility in Kaduna State to expect explosive blasts during a training exercise scheduled for Saturday.

The Academy said the exercise, an inter-company obstacle crossing competition for Short Service Cadets, would take place between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m.

In a statement issued on Friday, the NDA Public Relations Officer, Maj. Reuben Kovangiya, said the activity was part of the institution’s routine training programme.

He explained that the exercise, which would be conducted during both the day and night, was designed to assess the cadets’ ability to navigate obstacles under combat-like conditions.

Kovangiya said the training would involve controlled explosive blasts, urging residents not to be alarmed by the sounds.

“The exercise will involve the use of explosive blasts, and members of the public are advised not to panic,” he said.

He said the activity would be restricted to the NDA Afaka area but advised residents of Mando, Tsamiya, Kauya and Afaka to take note of the exercise.

The spokesperson assured residents that adequate safety measures had been put in place to ensure the training was conducted without incident.

He also appealed to the public and the media to cooperate with the Academy by helping to disseminate the information.
