The Nigeria Police Force has concluded security arrangements for the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, deploying personnel and operational assets across all 2,545 polling units in the state.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, CP Shogule Abayomi, disclosed this on Friday, saying the Force had put in place a comprehensive security framework to ensure a peaceful, transparent and orderly electoral process.
According to him, security operatives have been stationed at polling centres and other key locations to protect voters, election officials, observers and sensitive election materials throughout the exercise.
Abayomi noted that the security plan extends beyond polling units to include critical infrastructure, border communities, and major entry and exit routes across the state.
He said, “Security deployments and operational arrangements for the Ekiti State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, with security coverage extended to all 2,545 polling units across the state has been put in place.
The deployment also covers critical infrastructure, major entry and exit routes, border communities, and other strategic locations identified as vital to ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
He stated, “Security personnel and operational assets have been strategically positioned across polling units and other designated locations to ensure the safety of voters, electoral officials, election observers, and sensitive electoral materials throughout the exercise.”
The election security chief further conveyed assurances from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, that officers assigned to election duties had received adequate briefings and would conduct themselves professionally.
“Personnel would carry out their duties professionally, impartially, and in strict compliance with the law,” he said.
Abayomi warned that anyone involved in electoral malpractice or actions capable of compromising the credibility of the election would face sanctions in line with the Electoral Act and other applicable laws.
He also called on residents and eligible voters to remain peaceful and participate in the election without fear, while urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could trigger panic or disrupt public order.
To enhance rapid response during the election, Abayomi announced a dedicated emergency line for residents.
“Citizens are urged to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the election. The police encourage members of the public to promptly report any security concerns through the dedicated election emergency line, 080062335577, which will remain active throughout the election period to facilitate rapid response and intervention,” he said.
A total of 13 political parties are expected to contest the governorship election.
