Spanish giants Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of French international defender, Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer after his contract expired at Liverpool.
In a statement released by the Spanish club on Thursday, Los Blancos and the French centre-back “reached an agreement for him to become a Real Madrid player for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030,” marking a long-term addition to their defensive line.
The 27-year-old joins after four years at Liverpool, whom he joined in 2021 from RB Leipzig.
During his time at Anfield, Konaté made 183 appearances and was part of a successful squad that won the Premier League title in 2025 as well as the FA Cup in 2022, among other honours.
Konaté, who is currently representing France at the World Cup, arrives as part of a broader squad reshaping at Real Madrid following recent trophyless campaigns.
The club has already added reinforcements this summer, including former Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella and Portugal international midfielder Bernardo Silva, alongside the appointment of José Mourinho as head coach.
“Los Blancos have also been linked with Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries, as they overhaul their squad after going two consecutive seasons without a major trophy,” reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen multiple areas of the team ahead of the new campaign.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have also moved to secure continuity in defence by extending Antonio Rüdiger’s contract until 2027.
The renewal comes amid notable exits, with Dani Carvajal and David Alaba both leaving the Santiago Bernabéu at the end of their contracts.
