Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have thwarted an alleged plan to abduct a Chinese national and arrested two suspects linked to a ₦50 million ransom scheme.
The suspects, identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were arrested on June 9, 2026, after intelligence reports indicated a planned kidnapping along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu axis.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said swift action by officers of the Obalende Division led to the disruption of the operation.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised surveillance and operational teams to the identified area, where the suspects were intercepted and arrested before the crime could be executed,” the statement said.
Investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly conspired to kidnap the foreign national and demand a ransom of ₦50 million. One of the suspects, Onwuemena, was also accused of using his position as an interpreter and driver within the victim’s company to aid the alleged plot.
“Findings showed that Chinedu Onwuemena exploited his access within the company environment to facilitate the criminal plan,” the police added.
The command further disclosed that a third suspect believed to be part of the operation is currently on the run, adding that efforts are underway to apprehend him and dismantle the wider network behind the conspiracy.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operation, describing their response as professional and timely.
He also stressed the importance of intelligence sharing in crime prevention, assuring residents and business owners in the state of continued security efforts.
“We remain committed to intelligence-led policing and proactive measures to prevent crime. We urge the public to continue supporting the police with useful information,” he said.
