Delta CP warns officers against misconduct

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, has conducted an inspection tour of major security flashpoints and highway checkpoints across the state as part of efforts to strengthen policing and improve public safety.

The tour, carried out on Saturday, took the police chief to strategic locations, including Edjekota Junction, Evwreni Junction, Ohoro Junction and several stop-and-search points along major expressways, where he assessed operational deployments and interacted with officers on duty.

During the exercise, Oyeniyi urged personnel to remain alert and carry out their responsibilities professionally while maintaining cordial relationships with members of the public.

“Officers must remain vigilant, observe professionalism and engage members of the public with courtesy and respect,” the police commissioner said.

He cautioned officers against acts capable of undermining public confidence in the force, stressing that policing should be conducted with respect for human dignity and fundamental rights.

“There must be no abuse, harassment or incivility in the discharge of duties. Policing must be carried out with a human face and in strict compliance with human rights standards,” he stated.

The commissioner also directed officers to maintain a neat appearance and uphold the values of the Nigeria Police Force while on duty.

“Officers must be properly dressed, maintain a smart appearance and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the core values of the Nigeria Police Force,” he added.

While commending personnel for their commitment and service, Oyeniyi warned that the command would not condone misconduct or behaviour that could attract complaints from members of the public.

“The command will not tolerate any form of misconduct or complaints from the public,” he warned.

The police commissioner reassured residents of the state’s commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that security operations would continue to be strengthened across Delta.

He also called on residents to support law enforcement efforts by providing credible and timely information that could aid crime prevention and investigation.
