The Nigerian Railway Corporation has announced additional train services on the Lagos-Ibadan corridor to ease movement during the Sallah celebration.
In a statement issued by the corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the temporary adjustment is scheduled to take effect on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, to cater for the expected surge in passengers travelling for the festive period.
According to the NRC, the number of trips on the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service route will increase from the regular four Tuesday trips to six.
“The temporary adjustment is aimed at accommodating the expected increase in passenger movement as many Nigerians travel to celebrate the festive season with their families and loved ones,” the statement said.
The corporation explained that trains departing Lagos would leave at 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., while departures from Ibadan are scheduled for 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
It added that the arrangement would only last for the Sallah period, after which the normal Tuesday timetable would resume.
“Immediately after the celebration, the normal Tuesday timetable of four trips will resume,” the NRC stated.
The corporation also disclosed that the recently introduced six-trip Thursday schedule would be reduced temporarily next week, with only four trips expected to operate on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
“The regular six-trip Thursday schedule will however resume the following week,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the NRC revealed that the Osun State Government would sponsor a free Sallah train service for indigenes travelling from Lagos to Osogbo for the celebration.
The special service on the narrow-gauge corridor is expected to depart from Iddo Station in Lagos on Tuesday, May 26, while the return journey from Osogbo to Lagos will take place on Thursday, May 28.
According to the corporation, the initiative is part of the state government’s annual support for residents travelling home during festive periods.
“The service, which is usually operated during festive periods, is being sponsored by the Osun State Government through a paid arrangement with the Nigerian Railway Corporation to convey Osun indigenes free of charge for the Sallah celebration,” the statement noted.
The NRC reaffirmed its commitment to safe and reliable rail transportation services across the country and wished Nigerians a peaceful Sallah celebration.
