Sallah: Kano gov Yusuf didn’t snub Emir Sanusi, says spokesman

The Kano State Government has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Abba Yusuf ignored the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration in the state.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, who described the reports as misleading.

“The claims are false, unfounded, and devoid of any factual basis. They appear aimed at creating unnecessary tension,” the statement said.

The government explained that it is a long-standing tradition for governors to pay homage to the President during the Sallah period, noting that this year’s celebration coincided with an important meeting of Nigerian governors.

“For the avoidance of doubt, it is an established tradition for governors to pay homage to the President during the Sallah period.

This year, however, the Eid-el-Fitr celebration coincided with the annual strategic meeting of Nigerian governors, leading to a scheduling overlap that necessitated the governor’s presence outside the state,” the statement read.

According to the government, Governor Yusuf had communicated directly with the Emir and made arrangements for his reception in line with established protocol.

“The governor mandated the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, alongside other senior officials, to receive the Emir on his behalf at the Government House,” it added.

The statement further noted that the governor participated in key Sallah activities, including the Eid prayer led by the Emir and the Hawan Daushe at Gaya Emirate.

“He also made arrangements to personally receive the Emirs of Rano, Karaye, and Gaya. However, due to unavoidable scheduling clashes, senior government functionaries were delegated to represent him accordingly,” the statement said.

It was also disclosed that at the time of the Hawan Nasarawa, the governor was in Lagos attending an official engagement with other governors.

The Kano State Government maintained that there is no misunderstanding between the governor and the Emirate Council.

“The relationship remains cordial, respectful, and anchored on mutual commitment to sustaining peace, unity, and development in Kano State,” the statement stated.

The government urged members of the public to disregard the reports and rely on credible sources for accurate information
