The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has announced plans to unveil a new digital platform designed to simplify and regulate drone operations across Nigeria.
The authority said the Drone/Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems portal would be officially launched during the 6th Africa International Drone Technology Conference and Exhibition, DroneTecX 2026, scheduled to hold from May 12 to 16 at the NIGAV Expo Centre, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, and shared on the agency’s official X platform on Saturday.
According to the agency, the initiative represents a significant move toward improving oversight of drone activities while promoting the growth of the sector through a more efficient regulatory process.
The authority explained that the portal would provide a centralised system for drone registration, operator certification, incident reporting, ownership transfer, and compliance monitoring for individuals, small businesses, and commercial operators.
“The new digital portal consolidates the entire application and approval lifecycle into a single, user-friendly platform,” the NCAA stated.
It added, “Operators can now submit documentation, upload safety case files and track application status in real time, all in full compliance with Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs Part 22).”
The agency encouraged drone operators, service providers, stakeholders, and prospective users to familiarise themselves with the platform ahead of its official rollout.
It also urged interested participants to attend the unveiling at DroneTecX 2026, where a live demonstration and practical guidance on using the system would be provided.
The NCAA noted that the development is expected to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks and improve operational efficiency within Nigeria’s expanding drone industry.
