Two people have been confirmed dead following a road traffic accident along the Kaduna Western Bypass in Kaduna State.
The incident, which occurred in the early afternoon, involved a DAF truck, a Honda car, and a motorcycle at the Federal Eye Centre Junction.
The Kaduna Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Andre Longkam, confirmed the development, stating that preliminary findings showed a collision between the Honda vehicle and the motorcycle.
“Two persons lost their lives in the crash,” Longkam said.
He explained that the victims were the motorcycle rider and a passenger, who died on the spot as a result of the impact.
According to him, the situation escalated shortly after the accident, as some aggrieved youths in the area reportedly set the affected vehicles on fire, causing further destruction.
“In the aftermath of the crash, some irate youths set the vehicles ablaze,” he added.
The FRSC boss noted that officers of the corps, working alongside the police, responded promptly to the scene to control traffic and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
“Our personnel, in collaboration with the police, quickly intervened to manage the situation and ensure normal traffic flow,” Longkam said.
He urged motorists to be cautious while driving, particularly on roads undergoing construction, and to strictly adhere to traffic regulations.
Longkam also warned against actions that could worsen emergency situations, stressing that investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
“The command remains committed to improving road safety and reducing accidents across the state,” he added.
