The Kano State Police Command has successfully rescued a two-year-old boy who was abducted in the state, arrested three suspects, and recovered a large portion of the ransom paid by the child’s family.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, explaining that the child was kidnapped on April 19 in Gwammaja Quarters, located in Dala Local Government Area.
According to the statement, the victim’s father reported that his son, identified as Aliyu Muhammad, was taken in front of their residence.
“The suspects later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of ₦1,000,000. Although the ransom was paid, the child was not released as agreed,” Kiyawa said.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Bakori, directed the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to launch an immediate operation.
“Upon receiving the complaint, the Commissioner of Police ordered the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to deploy all available intelligence and operational resources to secure the victim’s rescue,” the statement added.
Police said sustained intelligence gathering and technical tracking led operatives to the suspects’ location.
“Through diligent follow-up and intelligence-led operations, the suspects’ hideout was identified and they were apprehended,” Kiyawa stated.
The suspects—Hassan Umar, Abdullahi Hamisu, and Hussaini Saminu—were reportedly found within the same community where the incident occurred, and the child was held at one of their residences.
“Investigations revealed that the victim was kept at the residence of one of the suspects. He was rescued unharmed and has been reunited with his family,” the police spokesperson said.
The command also confirmed that ₦930,000, being part of the ransom collected, was recovered during the operation.
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police praised their professionalism and effectiveness.
“The operatives demonstrated commendable resilience and tactical efficiency in ensuring the safe rescue of the child,” the statement noted.
The police reiterated their commitment to tackling criminal activities in the state and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies.
