The Kano State House of Assembly has scheduled Monday for the screening of Hon. Murtala Sule Garo, who has been nominated for the position of Deputy Governor by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The development was announced on Wednesday by the spokesperson to the Speaker of the Assembly, Kamaludden Shawai, in a statement shared via Facebook.
Shawai confirmed that the legislature had formally received the governor’s communication forwarding Garo’s name for consideration.
“The House has received official correspondence from His Excellency regarding the nomination of Hon. Murtala Sule Garo for the office of Deputy Governor. The nominee is expected to appear before the Assembly for screening and possible confirmation,” he said.
He added that lawmakers have fixed Monday as the date to commence the screening process.
Governor Yusuf had earlier transmitted Garo’s nomination to the Assembly through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad. The statement noted that the nomination complies with constitutional provisions.
“The nomination is in accordance with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the governor to appoint a deputy governor in the event of a vacancy,” the statement read.
The deputy governorship seat became vacant following the resignation of the former occupant, Abdussalam Gwarzo, who stepped down from office on March 27, 2026.
