President Bola Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments affecting several key agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education, including the National Examinations Council, the National Board for Technical Education, the National Library of Nigeria, and a federal polytechnic.
The announcement was contained in a statement on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the move is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen education institutions across the country.
Under the new appointments, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been named Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO, while the current Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, retains his position.
For the NBTE, Prof. Babatunde Salako has been appointed as Chairman of the Board, while Prof. Idris Bugaje has already been reappointed as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.
In the polytechnic sector, Dr Bongfa Binfa has been appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, for a single five-year term. He replaces the pioneer Rector, Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026.
Before his appointment, Binfa served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and also previously lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.
Meanwhile, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has been reappointed as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term.
She was first appointed in September 2021 and, according to the statement, has overseen “several institutional reforms aimed at repositioning the National Library as a modern technology-driven knowledge institution” including the development of digital platforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.
The statement added that Adelabu brings experience from her time as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and former NBTE leadership role, while Salako is a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research.
It further noted that Anunobi’s renewed tenure is expected to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms and support completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.
