Serie A: Juventus beat Bologna 2-0, keep UCL dreams alive

Juventus strengthened their grip on a top-four finish in Serie A with a composed 2-0 victory over Bologna, capitalising on Como’s earlier stumble in the race for Champions League qualification.

Following Como’s defeat to Sassuolo on Friday, the Bianconeri seized the moment at the Allianz Stadium, opening up a five-point gap over their closest challengers with just five matches left in the campaign.

It took Juventus barely two minutes to set the tone. Jonathan David reacted sharply to meet Pierre Kalulu’s delivery, guiding a precise header into the bottom corner to hand the hosts an early lead.

The Turin side continued to press, and Francisco Conceição briefly thought he had doubled the advantage, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside after a well-timed run was judged marginally early.

Juventus maintained control throughout the first half, carving out further chances. Conceição forced a smart save from Federico Ravaglia, while Emil Holm came close with a powerful strike that crashed against the crossbar.

David also went close again before the interval, capping an impressive opening display from Luciano Spalletti’s men.

Their dominance eventually paid off again shortly after the break. Manuel Locatelli’s blocked shot fell kindly to Weston McKennie, who showed composure to pick out Khephren Thuram with a precise cross, allowing the substitute to head home Juventus’ second in the 56th minute.

With a comfortable cushion, Juventus shifted focus to game management, keeping Bologna at bay with relative ease.

The visitors’ best opportunity came just after the hour mark when Jonathan Rowe struck the post from close range, but it proved to be a rare threat in an otherwise controlled performance by the hosts.

The victory extends Juventus’ impressive run of form, making it seven Serie A matches without defeat.

During that stretch, they have collected 17 points and kept five clean sheets, underlining their growing momentum at a crucial stage of the season.

David’s early strike also etched his name into the record books, becoming the fastest Juventus scorer in a home league game since Dusan Vlahovic’s quick-fire goal against Roma in August 2022.

Juventus’ dominance over Bologna on home soil continues as well, with the Turin giants now unbeaten in their last 14 meetings at the Allianz Stadium.

The statistics reflected their control, with Juventus registering 14 attempts and an expected goals tally of 1.1, while limiting Bologna to just seven off-target shots and a modest xG of 0.54—further evidence of a disciplined and efficient display.
