Man City thrash Chelsea 3-0, tighten EPL title race

Manchester City boosted their Premier League title charge with a commanding 3-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, reducing the gap at the top to six points.

With Arsenal slipping up against Bournemouth a day earlier, Pep Guardiola’s men seized the opportunity to pile pressure on the leaders.

After a quiet and unconvincing first half, City returned from the break with purpose, scoring three times in a devastating 17-minute spell to take full control.

Nico O’Reilly opened the scoring in the 50th minute, continuing his impressive run in front of goal.

Marc Guéhi soon doubled the advantage with his first league strike for the club, before Jérémy Doku capitalised on a costly mistake by Moisés Caicedo to seal an emphatic win.

The result highlights City’s growing momentum at a crucial stage of the season, while Arsenal’s form appears to be faltering.

For Chelsea, the defeat is a major setback, denting their hopes of securing a Champions League place.

Despite showing promise under Liam Rosenior in the early weeks of his tenure, Chelsea once again raised concerns about their consistency and mentality, particularly against top opposition.

The hosts actually started the brighter side, with Cole Palmer firing into the side-netting against his former club.

Marc Cucurella also found the net early on, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside, while Pedro Neto tested Gianluigi Donnarumma with a low strike.

City, on the other hand, struggled to create chances before the break, with Bernardo Silva’s effort in the 33rd minute their first real attempt, comfortably dealt with by Robert Sánchez.

However, the visitors looked far sharper after halftime. Erling Haaland threatened early but failed to convert, before O’Reilly broke the deadlock moments later, heading home after a lapse in concentration from Andrey Santos.

City’s dominance grew from there. Guéhi calmly finished off a well-worked move to make it two, and Chelsea’s misery was compounded when Caicedo lost possession cheaply, allowing Doku to pounce and add a third.

Chelsea attempted a late response through Cucurella, but his efforts failed to trouble Donnarumma significantly, as City comfortably saw out the game.

With a crucial clash against Arsenal on the horizon, City now look firmly capable of taking the title race down to the wire.
